In order to construct the Power Plant in Freudenau, the Danube River had to be dammed up and the Prater Bridge elevated 1.8 m. The middle section of the bridge (a steel support structure) was also uniformly raised 1.8 m. The bridge ramps, approxiamately 9,500 t concrete support structures had to be tilted up as well. This proved to be a particular challenge due to the weight and especially the minimal tolerance of the steering mechanism during the lifting process (lengthwise 1 cm to every 50 m and across 1 mm).
